If You Build It Then It Will Come
The line, “if you build it, they will come” is well known from the movie Field of Dreams. I like to apply a variation of this line to my methodology for growing healthy turf. If you build healthy soil (“it”) then what “comes” of this practice is healthy turf. Or in other words, “If you build it, then it will come.”
Granular fertilizers are usually broken down and made available to the plant by microbial activity. Microbes feed on carbon-based molecules. Mineral or synthetic fertilizers are primarily void of useable carbon, and if continually applied, create unhealthy soil as microbial populations become depleted. Mineral or synthetic fertilizers used on these soils will not be as effective because the method by which they become available to the plant is compromised. This approach feeds the plant but starves the soil.
What is the answer to this problem? When feeding your turf, apply products rich in carbon. Advanced Turf distributes many products that accomplish this goal.
Healthy Grow enhanced with Foliar-Pak Armament 2-4-3, 8-3-5 and 10-3-2 are composted chicken manure based granular fertilizers that are very high in carbon. The carbon in these products comes from proteins that the chicken has already digested, which provides a readily available energy source for soil microbes.
2-4-3, 8-3-5, and 10-3-2 are also infused with Armament Technology, which is rich in beneficial microbes, humic and fulvic acid, and sea kelp extract. Humic and fulvic acid, as well as sea kelp extract, are carbon sources known to stimulate root growth. In addition, they also help open tight soils, which creates a healthy soil by improving the soil profile oxygen levels and making nutrients tied up in the soil available to the plant through chelation.
By applying these products to your soil, your turf (or any plant for that matter) will be more physiologically fit. This means your turf will be healthy, enabling it to handle stress better and maintain that health under extreme environmental conditions as well as normal conditions.
The Foliar-Pack liquid line is also an excellent way of stimulating soil health, as well as providing unique foliar plant nutrition through amino acid technology.
