Maintaining healthy turf during the summer months can be challenging, but Solarous helps protect turf from UV radiation, all while enhancing its appearance. Solarous, by The Aquatrols Company, is a unique liquid additive that combines chromatic reflective ingredients to the base green pigment and additional advanced surfactant systems, which work together to enhance turf resiliency and color, as well as greater adhesion to the turf.

Protect Turf From Ultraviolet Rays

Issues like drought, dry spots, and disease often occur during the summer months when courses are busiest. Chemical breakdown due to intense UV rays is another issue, too. A standard colorant can provide a temporary solution, but Solarous’ proprietary blend goes further. Its base green pigment provides a natural-looking color response and its chromatic reflective ingredients work to increase UV reflectance. When testing for efficacy, The Aquatrols Company conducted research at North Carolina State University and found that adding chromatic reflective ingredients into Solarous’ colorant formulation helped increase UV reflection by 15%.

Application and Usage

Solarous is designed to be incorporated into superintendents’ summer spray programs to reduce transpiration, wilt, hot spots, and the need for hand watering. Solarous should be applied at a rate between 0.5 and two fluid ounces per 1,000 square feet in a minimum of 50 gallons of water per acre. Use rates will depend on the type of turf, growing conditions, and desired color.

Solarous can be mixed with other products in foliar sprays. Applicators should shake the product well, check compatibility, and follow the proper mixing order. If Solarous is used as a tank mix with other base green pigment products, using a lower rate to ensure the right color response is recommended. Please see Solarous’ label for additional information and guidelines.

Additional Fast Facts

  • Solarous does not contain zinc, eliminating the risk of elevated soil zinc levels after repeated applications.
  • When treating with Solarous, greens and fairways will see the best results, but bunker banks and high-profile areas will benefit, too.
  • Solarous can replace spray pattern indicators when used at a rate of one fluid ounce per 1,000 square feet (the higher rate provides better visibility).
  • Solarous can be added to late-season preventative snow mold sprays, which can help protect turf from winter desiccation.
  • The concentrated surfactant system in Solarous helps increase leaf coverage and improves mixing and handling.
