Roundup is a recent topic that has been plastered all over every social media aspect in regards to its safety. I am not here to discuss its toxicity (although it is my belief it is a safe chemistry when used in accordance with the label), but rather give other chemical options than Roundup.

I believe over the past 20-30 years the horticultural market has overused Roundup, therefore making it less effective due to herbicide sensitivity/resistance. I want to preserve this chemistry for future generations and hence recommend other chemical options.

Here are a few:

Combining these multiple modes of actions together will provide “zone defense,” a term Dr. Jim Brosnan of the University of Tennessee has coined to prevent weeds from passing on herbicide-resistant mutations to future offspring.

Best of luck this year and remember rotate your herbicide mixtures!
