You’re aiming for a weed-free infield and outfield in winter and early spring, but one type of weed could disrupt your plan: the winter annual weed. These weeds complete their life cycle during the colder months, germinating in the fall, overwintering as seedlings, and blooming in early spring. Winter annuals can quickly overrun infields and outfields if not properly managed, as they can withstand frost and thrive in early spring.

Luckily, we have Corteva’s Crew specialty herbicide. Crew is designed to tackle winter annuals on several areas of your baseball or softball fields, including turfgrass, warning tracks, and infield soil.

What Makes Crew Herbicide Unique?

Crew combines the strength of two powerful products: Dimension 2EW (dithiopyr) and Gallery SC (isoxaben). Together, these ingredients offer a wide application window and effective weed control (up to five months) of more than 120 grassy and broadleaf weeds on cool—and warm-season grasses. With a wide application window and high tolerability, Crew is a top choice for sports turf managers looking for comprehensive weed control on both their infield and outfield.

How to Use Crew Herbicide

Ensure your infields and outfields remain weed-free and safe for play by following these guidelines:

  1. Apply Early: For best results, apply Crew before weed seeds germinate in early spring or fall when the area is weed- and debris-free.
  2. Application Rates: For skin and grass playing surfaces, apply at a rate of one bag per 15,000 square feet.
  3. Irrigation: If there is no rainfall within three weeks of application, ensure the treated area is irrigated.
  4. Follow-Up: To maintain control throughout the season, a second application can be made five to ten weeks after the initial treatment. Crew also offers post-emergent crabgrass control.
