One of the scariest seed situations I have encountered occurred at a newly-built, high school baseball field. When I went to evaluate the field, I found it covered in a messy seed mixture of many different varieties that grew in very spotty. Broadleaf weeds and other unwanted species were growing alongside the different varieties. The seed mixture was not appropriate for sports turf, and it did not germinate well at all.

We put together a great program, which included aggressively slit seeding with HGT 80/20, fertilizing with Healthy Grow and 22-3-11, and topdressing to remedy the turf. It’s a beautiful field today.
