Spring has sprung and soon we will all be swatting those pesky insects away from us. People will be asking, “What will control ________?” You can fill in the blank. Thankfully, Advanced Turf Solutions put together a handy Insecticide guide to help you decide the product of choice.

Bug Guide

insect guide chartThe Insecticide Guide is two-sided with ornamental products on one side and turfgrass products on the other. It lists the majority of our insecticides, along with the pests they control and use rates. This is a quick reference guide and definitely doesn’t replace the product label.

Let’s say you want to know what will work to control scale insects. Spring is a great time to treat for scale systemically. Go to the column for scale on the ornamental side. There are nine products that have scale on the label. On several of them, you’ll have to look at the label closer to find out if both armored scale and soft scale are covered (they’re not).  Safari is labeled for both types of scale. You should use 0.2-0.4 oz per inch DBH. For Borer control with Safari, use the high rate of .4 oz per inch DBH.

The Insecticide Guide can be a helpful tool.  Keep it close.  It will help keep the bugs away.
